Supporting Adults & Young People in Therapy
Welcome to Sunrose
I'm Shannen, a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor, clinical supervisor, and the founder of Sunrose Counselling. With over eight years of experience supporting children, young people, and adults, I am dedicated to helping you find your way. I offer a warm, gentle, and integrative approach, creating a compassionate space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace that feels comfortable.
I believe that since every person is unique, our time together should be tailored specifically to your individual needs and life story. I truly understand that reaching out for help can feel daunting or even overwhelming. My goal is to provide a reliable space where you feel safe, heard, and able to speak openly without any fear of judgment.
Working together, we can begin to make sense of your experiences, helping you build self-awareness and resilience as you move forward. Whether you are navigating a specific life challenge or simply feel that things aren't quite right, you don't have to carry that weight alone. I am here to walk alongside you in your journey toward healing and growth.
My Approach
My journey into counselling began with a strong interest in understanding people and supporting emotional needs. Since qualifying in 2018, I have worked across both educational settings and private practice, supporting children, young people, and adults with a wide range of experiences from everyday challenges to more complex emotional difficulties.
Alongside my private practice, I spent several years leading a large counselling service within a secondary school. This role allowed me to support not only students, but also families and staff, while developing a strong foundation in safeguarding and working with more complex needs.
My interest in counselling comes from a deep desire to support people during vulnerable moments when they feel there is no escape. I believe that even in difficult times, there is always a way forward, and that no feeling is permanent even when it may feel overwhelming. Sometimes, we need another person alongside us to feel heard and understood. I am passionate about creating a space where people feel they have a voice, especially if they have struggled to express themselves before.
One of the most rewarding parts of my work is witnessing the changes in my clients, the growth, the shifts in perspective, and the strength they begin to recognise within themselves.
I have experience working with both young people and adults, and I value the different journeys each person brings. I understand the importance of early support, while also recognising that meaningful change can happen at any stage of life.
Location
I provide therapeutic sessions at two convenient locations. I have a private counselling room in Old Town Stevenage at 68A High Street, SG1 3EA, and I also offer sessions in Hertford, SG14.
